Celebrating Ash Wednesday

17.02.21

To mark the start of the season of LENT, our school was involved in two ways of celebrating Ash Wednesday.

The year 4 to year 6 students participated in a Mass in the church led by Father Michael. The mass was led by the students of 3AT and a big thankyou goes to Miss Tilley and the students for leading our celebration so well.

The Reception to year 3 students participated in an Ash Wednesday liturgy where they learned about the season of Lent and the importance of prayer, giving to the poor and giving things up. The Hall was made into a sacred space for these liturgies.

In the lead up to Ash Wednesday, classes have discussed the symbolism of the ashes. Receiving ashes on our forehead reminds us to turn away from bad habits and turn towards kindness and love and the things that draw us closer to God.

We congratulate all of our students for how they participated in the mass and liturgies.

Project compassion boxes have gone home with each student to allow students to raise money for Caritas and support the work they do for people in need overseas.

These boxes will be returned to the school in Week 9 before Easter.

God Bless,
Ben Ryan
