Caritas Fun Run

27.03.21

On Wednesday, 24 March, 500 Year 5 and Year 6 students from St Martin de Porres School and eight other local Catholic schools came together for the Caritas Fun Run. The students completed either a 3km walk or a 6km run starting from Angus Neill Reserve, Seacliff and looping between Brighton and Seacliff. The event gave the children the opportunity to physically challenge themselves during this time of Lent and also allowed them to bring their project compassion donations together to be received by Sarah Mophatt on behalf of Caritas.

Courageous. The children showed great courage to tackle 6km and 3km track. They gave it their best and pushed themselves.
Active. There was much activity on the run/walk, and the Angus Neill Reserve proved popular with many St Martin’s children who relived their childhood rolling down the large grass hill.
Reflective. The children stopped to reflect and pray during our opening welcome and while listening to Sarah Mophatt who spoke representing Caritas.
Impressive. The collection of the Project Compassion Boxes raised an impressive amount of money to support the work of Caritas.
Tasty. Everyone enjoyed a well-earned BBQ lunch, graciously prepared by the Lions Club.
Accelerating. There were some children who know what it means to accelerate, just ask Mr Buchanan, who as the lead runner, had to keep up with them.
Significant. The rain cleared and the sun shone upon a day where students made significant new connections with students from other schools.

We thank Sarah Mophatt from the Adelaide Archdiocese, the Year 10 Student Leaders from Sacred Heart College, our Youth Ministers Ben and Ineke, other youth leaders, the Lions Club and all other parents, teachers, volunteers and helpers who made the day a success.

God Bless,
Ben Ryan
