On Friday, 7 August the students and staff ventured out into our neighbourhood for the annual Walk a Mile In My Boots event to raise funds and awareness for the Hutt St Centre and to support those experiencing homelessness.
With dark clouds looming there were many eyes turning to the heavens and to weather apps, however our petitions to Saint Dominic and Saint Mary Mackillop to intercede for us were answered with a cold but dry day.
Prior to departing the children heard from our student leaders who asked everyone to remember to “have fun” while also encouraging them to step into the shoes of those experiencing homelessness and embrace the cold to appreciate in some small way the challenges those without shelter face.
The children enjoyed the beautiful surrounds and birdlife of the Hugh Johnson Boulevard Reserve and kept a very positive attitude along the walk. We sincerely thank the parents who volunteered to accompany us and the Youth Ministers who also joined us.
This event reflects our school’s values and the lesson from St Mary of the Cross MacKillop to never see a need without doing something about it. We thank our generous community for donating to this very worthy cause. A special shoutout to Elliot and Chloe in Year 1 who made (with their family) 111 individually wrapped lolly bags to sell to students and staff with the money made to be donated. Elliot and Chloe sold out of all the lolly bags and raised an additional $160 for the School. Thank you for your generosity and time!
Donations via the Qkr app or in cash (via envelop to the front office) will still be received up until the end of August.
God Bless
Ben Ryan
