On Wednesday, 10 March to Friday, 12 March, our Year Six students attended ‘Finniss’ Camp (near Goolwa).
The camp was set up with a ‘Challenge by Choice’ and ‘Positive Education’ approach. This meant that the students were provided with opportunities that pushed them outside their comfort zone, developing news skills and understandings about themselves and the world around them. This required students to adopt a Growth Mindset, focusing on giving everything a go, no matter how difficult it may seem.
Students spent the first night in a dorm and the second night in a tent on an oval. All teachers and supervisors were particularly impressed at the resilience that students displayed, as well as their positive attitude.
During the day, students participated in activities such as; mountain bike riding, rock climbing, surfing, shelter building, canoeing and a talent show.
A special thank you to Jodi for volunteering her time to help on the camp, as well as Mr Catalano and Mr Fosdike.
A few highlights included:
- Arie climbing faster than anyone up the rock climbing tower;
- Niamh doing her best Kelly Slater impersonation, carving up the waves in Middleton;
- the amazing food provided by the cooks (who knew students had the capacity to eat 3-4 servings!);
- the excitement of finding out ‘Who is in my dorm/tent?’
- canoe ‘World Domination' game
- Jessie’s multiple talents in the talent show, getting everyone onto the stage to dance!; and
- Riley attempting to eat a bowl of apple crumble bigger than his head.
Thank you to all the Year Six students for making camp such an enjoyable experience for all involved! It was incredible to witness the fun, laughter, and pure joy of tackling new challenges over the three-day camp.
