Year 4 Camp

06.06.22

It was early on a freezing cold Wednesday morning but the excitement of 75 Year 4 students was palpable. After having an earlier camp cancelled, we were fortunate enough to head to Illawonga for two days and a night. It was this group's first ever school camp.

After two and a half suspenseful hours we arrived, full of energy. A taco lunch was followed by our first of three main activities: A boat ride on the Murray, exploring for fossils in a cave and a trailer ride/walk around learning about local animals.

On the river, the children had the opportunity to drive the boat, and learned about the natural features of the land, as well as some fascinating information about local animals. Did you know that Murray Cod live in snags, barely move, and are as big as a person? Because I didn't! The cave was a particular highlight and students were able to take home a fossil they found. What an experience!

Our night-time activities included karaoke and a gymnastics hall (with a giant foam pit), a real highlight. Then came the inevitable; trying to sleep surrounded by energetic friends! For many students, this was their first night away from home and they are to be applauded for their bravery. Needless to say, not a lot of sleep was had. But hopefully the memories will last well beyond any tiredness. The children brought a fantastic attitude to camp, and as a result had a great time!

A huge thank you to the staff (Miss Stapley, Mrs Spearman, Mr Rouse, Tristan, Mr Mills and Mr Buchanan) and parent helpers for their ongoing support in their pursuit of providing an unforgettable experience for the children.
