The start of November is a very busy time in the Catholic Calendar. In the space of four days there is Halloween, All Saints Day, All Souls Day, and the St Martin de Porres Feast day. All Saints Day is the celebration of all the holy men and women who are named as official Saints, Halloween is the eve of All Saints Day (All Hallows Eve), All Souls Day is the day we pray for anyone who has died and St Martin de Porres' Feast Day is when we give thanks for the life of our Patron Saint.
On Wednesday, November we celebrated a combined Mass for All Souls Day and the Feast of Saint Martin de Porres. Being All Souls Day the children were given an opportunity to pray for loved ones who have died by preparing a butterfly and writing the name of a passed loved one on the back of the butterfly. We spoke to the children about how those people remain with us and live on and are still part of our story when we pray for them, and ask them to pray for us.
In the Mass the children from 2KH and 2OB did a wonderful job leading the spoken and sung prayers, and all the children participated well with the singing and they listening intently to Father Prathap and Deacon Tim who celebrated the Mass.
