Principal's Update

31.08.20

Dear Parents,

The celebration of our Mary MacKillop and St Dominic Feast Day Mass was a pleasure to be at in our school hall. Thankfully we are still able to gather for these celebrations even though not in the church.

Unfortunately the Government’s people gathering rules won’t allow us to have our Annual Father’s Day Breakfast. A real pity, however, please continue to support the Parent Community in their work by purchasing a Father's Day Raffle Ticket on Qkr! - entries will close on Wednesday, 2 September at 12:00pm.

There are school events planned for Term 3 and 4 that I am still hopeful will go ahead.
-  Children’s Disco – Friday, 25 September 2020 (Last day of Term 3).
-  Book Week – Monday,19 to Friday 23 October 2020.
-  Sport’s Day – Term 4:  Date TBA as soon as possible.
-  Christmas Concert – Wednesday, 25 November 2020.
Communication about these events will be sent out when we get closer to the dates.

Have Your Say – Really Important
The Marion Council has opened a community consultation online survey regarding Spinnaker Reserve which will close on Thursday, 3 September. Have your say now: www.makingmarion.com.au/spinnaker-circuit-reserve-revocation

The school currently has a 12 month lease for car parking on this Reserve. The survey is about changing the classification of the Reserve so that the council can sell it. The School would be very interested in this Reserve if it became available at a reasonable price. The ability to have a permanent carpark and another entrance into the school would provide a significant asset to the school community.

I would encourage families to complete the survey. This will provide necessary support to the school so that the council would accept that the sale would have a very positive affect for the St Martin De Porres School Community, which is providing a significant service in the Marion Council area. I ask you to please complete the survey.

Pulse Survey
As you know last week the children from Reception to Year 6 completed an online survey. If you received any feedback from your children I would love to hear from you. Please email me at craig@smdps.catholic.edu.au

Building Progress
We continue to progress positively and the slab for the Year 3 and 4 classroom learning space was laid today. Thankyou for your support with your parking and pick up and drop off.

God Bless
